This town is situated 21km from Uzhhorod. The title arised from the word "serednij" (the middle), which describes the distance between it and two main citites of Zakarpattya - Uzhhorod and Mukachevo. The legend says, that the founders of Seredne had changed it's location few times untill it was exactly "in the middle".

The main sight of this town is the castle of XIIIth century. This fortress was owned by the Templar Knights order, it was the most eastern outpost of it. Seredne castle is the only building in roman style in Zakarpattya. Besides, it was built on the flat terrain, which is also not classic for this territory.

Unfortunately, the only part survived is the donjon-tower. Donjon is the main and defining part of every roman castle. There were an arsenal and a prison here. Near it you can also find the ramaining parts of the well. Some parts of wooden paling, trench and shaft are also still visible.

The local climate is very suitable for viticulture. In the middle ages the forests in here had been almost eliminated to develop it. The first remind of local wine is dated 1417 year. Today, there is a wine production factory here, called "Leanka" ("girl" - hung.). The same as a famous local grape sort is called. You can visit a free wine-tasting and buy the one you like....
