It was built by people, who came on this place after the tatar hold up in 1241, by germans and poles. Besides ukrainians, of course...In 1788 the town's emblem became a deer with a pierced with an arrow neck. It was almost totally destroyed in 1939-41 years with soviet soldiers (the guerilla story of this land is theme for a separate book).

Today you can visit an ostrich farm here. It's easy to get there thanks for the pointers. Just a few kilometers further you can turn the left and visit an Old Sambir, which is a "gate" to Zakarpattya. Besides, it's famous for  well-preserved jewish cemetery with so-called "maceva"'s(tombstones).
