Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) is the central square of Kyiv, located on the Khreschatyk Street, and one of the must-see places. The square had different names in its history, but most often it has been referred to simply as the Maidan. Political events of great significance took place there in recent years.

Nowadays concerts, parades, festivals, meetings and other events are held on Maidan Nezalezhnosti. The square is also known for its architecture: six fountains, Independence Column and an artificial waterfall can be found there. The splendid panoramic view of Old Kyiv opens from the upper floors of the square constructions. From there you can observe the domes of the ancient Sofia Cathedral, Andriyivska Church, City Parliament, the Central Mall and many administrative buildings. A lot of shops, hotels and cafes are situated on the square. Two metro stations, Khreshchatyk and Maidan Nezalezhnosti, are also situated nearby.
