The museum was founded in 1923 by the legendary "Berezyl" union. It is the only institution of that kind in Ukraine, an important scientific and cultural center. Creative meetings, scientific conferences, presentations, lectures on history of Ukrainian theater and cinema are traditionally arranged there. The collection of the museum is incredibly rich and diverse. A lot of outdoor activities and successful mobile exhibitions have been organized by its workers in Ukraine and far abroad. Ukrainian Museum of Historical Treasures (also known as the museum of Scythian Gold) you can find in one of the most picturesque and ancient locations of the Ukrainian capital - the Pecherska Lavra. The collection of the museum is by right considered to be the richest collection of golden articles in the FSU countries. Jewelry from the earliest periods of Ukrainian history, discovered during archeological excavations, has been gathered there.
Among the articles of the museum there are such unique items as the famous treasures from the Gaimanov and the Tolstaya burial mounds, Scythian barrows, the burial of a Scythian queen with her child, a gold sheath of a Scythian short sword (akinaka), openwork masks, golden plaques and pendants, an impressive relic of ancient jewelry, a massive gold gryvna, a pectoral, breast ornament, with scenes of Scythian life and mythology, settings and frameworks for icons and religious books embellished with precious stones, as well as the masterpieces of jewelry made by Kyivan masters Ivan Ravich, Ivan Moshchenko, Mefody Narbutovich, and others.

Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art is a unique art museum, located in historical buildings on the territory of national Kyiv-Pechersk historical and cultural preserve, and one of the biggest museums in the country. The collection began in 1899. Nowadays it consists of over 77 thousand pieces of traditional folk and professional decorative art of Ukraine from the 15th century to our times. Here you can see domestic objects different in material, form, decoration and application made over into highly artistic masterpieces by talented masters. All kinds of folk art of Ukraine are represented in the exposition. The museum is situated at 21 Sichnevoho Povstannya Street (Ivan Mazepa Street).

 

National Museum of Medicine of Ukraine

One of the most specific, thrilling and rich museums of Ukraine was founded in 1973 in the historical building of the former anatomical theatre of Kyiv’s University by the Doctor of Medicine, honored Ukrainian professor O. A. Grando. The extending exposition is devoted to the development of medicine in Ukraine from the oldest times till today. In the museum you can familiarize yourself with diverse scientific-methodical materials and documents, architectural, art-and-technical and audio-visual means, original interiors with portrait figures of well-known scientists and physicians, dioramas of outstanding events, medical instruments, the pieces of Ukrainian fine arts dedicated to the medicine and many other exhibits. The Central Museum of Medicine of Ukraine is one of the largest medical museums in Europe. In 1983 it was awarded with the State Prize of Ukraine. The museum is situated in the center of the city at 37 Bohdana Khmelnitskogo Street.

 

National Art Museum of Ukraine

The National Art Museum of Ukraine, dedicated to Ukrainian art, was designed and constructed in 1898 by architect Vladyslav Gorodetsky as the museum for the local society of patrons of arts and antique lovers. The founders of the museum tended to prove the fact, that Ukrainian talented people, including those who lived abroad, were able to create masterpieces of fine art.
Today the constantly growing exhibition includes over 20 thousand unique pieces. Unique works of such world-recognized artists as Vasyl Yermylov, Alexander Bogomazov, Davyd Burliuk, Oleksandra Ekster, Vadim Meller, Kliment Redko, Solomon Nikritin, Vyctor Palmov, Maria Sinyakova, Mykhailo Boichuk, Mykola Pymonenko, Taras Shevchenko, Ilya Repin, Volodymyr Borovikovsky, Vasyl Tropynyn, Mykola Pymonenko, Mikhail Vrubel, Nikolai Ge and Oleksandr Murashko can be seen in the halls of the museum.

Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life

The open-air Museum of Ukrainian Folk Architecture, Rural Life and Folk Art stretches on the territory of 150 hectares of the picturesque Pirogovo village near Kyiv. Here one can admire the unique collection of folk architecture from all regions of Ukraine, feel the spirit of traditional Ukrainian life, visit folk crafts shops and a traditional restaurant serving Ukrainian cuisine. The museum's exhibition is divided in two departments: Architecture and Life in the Ukrainian Village before the Revolution and Folk Architecture and Life in the Socialist Village. The architectural and landscape panorama is supplemented by wooden churches and a collection of windmills. In summer and fall the museum hosts special craft festivals. On Sundays concerts of Ukrainian folk music are held there.
